This is my favorite way to serve dinner at home. It feels like a really casual meal. If I get hungry, I just pull this tray out of the refrigerator and serve myself. It’s a perfect way to be able to eat while the kids are sleeping.
In the video, it appears that a couple of the recipes will be cooked in a microwave, but I haven’t had the opportunity to try it yet. I’m still waiting for the big microwave to come out.
I have a great recipe in my cookbook called “Microwave Curing”. It’s kind of a take on the French classic, “la cuisinière en marmite” which means the “kitchen maid in the fridge”. It’s basically a casserole dish covered in a layer of cheese that is baked at a low temperature to melt the cheese, then served on top of a salad or vegetables.
The microwave’s a great tool for cooking, but it doesnt always do the trick. I have a recipe that uses a water bath to cook the bread, then I cut it into slices and cook them in the microwave for 20 seconds so that the cheese melts and the bread and cheese cook evenly.

Well, I’ve had the same question for a while. Yes, the bread is browned on both sides, but I dont know if it actually melts. So I guess I would have to go and buy a cake pan to make sure it doesnt.
This is where a cake pan will come in handy. You can use the cake pan to take the bread out of the oven and it should melt into a lovely crisp, golden brown crust. You could even just put the bread out with some water and eat it while it’s still warm.
The problem is that the bread itself can be difficult to slice and that the baking process can take a while. Some ovens are so fast that you have to wait until the internal temperature reaches 500F (you can also use my oven thermometer) before you can slice the bread.
