When I started catering high tea in 2011, I had the thought that my job was to entertain and to bring people together. I had the idea that we could create a space for people to be themselves and not conform to the social norms of what a good hostess should do or say. Since then, I have found that the guests that we have met over time are the ones that have truly grown into the best hosts.
The reason people choose to have a good time is because they want to be with other people who are like them, who have their own lives and interests. If you want to learn how to cater high tea, you really have to invite the right people into the space. The people who really grow into great hostesses are the ones who invite their friends over for tea, give them a place to sit and have a good time, and leave them feeling really comfortable.
The folks who know how to host high tea well tend to have a great time, and the ones who don’t tend to go home feeling like the world’s most awkward stalker. Even if you don’t invite your friends over to have tea, you can still benefit from the experience. It’s hard to host high tea well when you don’t know the people who will be there and the people who will be there will be strangers to you.
When I started to do high tea, I had no idea what kind of event I would be hosting. I was a bartender at a bar in downtown Portland, Oregon. I hadn’t been to a high tea since I was a kid, I had no idea what i was doing, I didn’t want to be standing in front of a crowd of strangers. I was nervous, and I felt very nervous.
I still feel the same way. I’m not sure I want to host high tea again, no matter how much I enjoy it, because I can’t imagine how the people at the reception will respond to what I’m doing. So I don’t know if I’m going to want to go through the same thing again.
I can see how catering high tea sounds intimidating because you have to prepare everything so well, and then just to be in the middle of it and not do anything makes you feel like you’re the odd man out. I’m not sure how you can get through it though. You are sitting in the middle of a group of people, and so you are not the focus of attention.
Well, it is quite a bit of work and effort to do a high tea. The whole idea is quite intimidating to some people, but if you are able to handle it then it can be quite a rewarding experience. I think the biggest challenge is to think of something that is really nice to drink and then make it taste good.
I can think of some things that can be made really nice, but the hard part is to actually get to the point where you can taste the thing. So for me, the hardest part is to get to the point where I taste the tea. But I know in advance I will be able to do it.
I have never been to a whole afternoon of high tea, but I’m pretty sure the best thing I’ve ever had was a cup of Earl Grey from the local British Tea Museum. It was a wonderful little sip of tea and I know I’ll remember that moment for a long time.
I’ve been to a few high tea events in my life. But I can’t say I’ve ever managed to taste the tea. I do know that Earl Grey from the tea museum is probably the best Ive tasted, but all the other cups from the British Tea Museum taste like they were made from some kind of liquid that was too thick to drink straight from the tap.
