Aga’s restaurant & catering has been a staple in my family’s life for over a decade. My parents have been part of the same family for a long time. The restaurant and catering business has been a success for Aga since its humble beginnings with the birth of the first location in downtown Oakland in 2007. Aga’s has since grown, and we’ve found ourselves a permanent location here in San Francisco.
Agas is a great place to get your meals fix. My favorite dishes here are those that are prepared by the chef using fresh ingredients. That includes our signature dish, “Agua Fresca.” The dish is a thick soup made from a fresh, warm, freshly made broth and topped with grated avocado and fresh herbs.

When using fresh ingredients, you have to be mindful of the health implications. There are several different types of bacteria in the agua fresca that can cause illnesses to your health.
The health implications are real. There have been many reports from people who had stomach issues after eating the agua fresca, but also other health issues that could have been caused by the bacteria. The only thing you can do is throw it away.
When it comes to food, there are three broad categories of bacteria involved: E. coli, Salmonella, and Shigellae (which are the ones that make you sick). The E. coli bacteria are the main ones. The bacteria can make you sick even if you aren’t eating it. For example, if you had the bacteria, and then drank the agua fresca, you may have been exposed to it. Your body is constantly fighting these bacteria.
The main reason to avoid E. coli is that it can cause diarrhea. The other types of bacteria can be less common and cause other problems like nausea or vomiting. If your body is exposed to a lot of other bacteria and you are in a confined space too long, the bacteria can multiply and produce a toxin, which affects your digestive system.
E. coli is one of those things that you’ll hear lots of people say that can’t be transmitted, but it can be. You can’t just take a bath with E. coli. It’s one of those things that can be passed on, but you need a lot of bacteria to do that. The best way to avoid E. coli is to only drink water. Another way is to avoid eating or drinking anything that has E.

You can order from the counter and place your food, or you can order that table and go to the kitchen to get set up.
